Emory Board of Trustees names Gregory L. Fenves as 21st president
Gregory L. Fenves, president of The University of Texas at Austin, has been elected as the 21st president of Emory University by a unanimous vote of Emory’s Board of Trustees. Fenves will assume office on Aug. 1.

 

SUPPORT
CAPS continues to provide workshops, other services to students
Counseling and Psychological Services remains open and is offering HIPAA-compliant telehealth clinical services for Emory enrolled students via Zoom. They also have scheduled several interactive workshops about stress and procrastination during remote learning.

 

COMMUNITY
Connections and care: Emory Spiritual Life moves online during COVID-19
Emory’s Office of Spiritual and Religious Life has found ways to continue supporting the community during social distancing, including offering resources for Passover, Easter and Ramadan.

ACHIEVEMENT
Emory College students win Goldwater Scholarship for math, science research
For the second year in a row, four Emory College students have won the nation’s top scholarship for undergraduates studying math, natural sciences and engineering. Pushkar Shinde, Krishna "Ananthu" Pucha, Kim Sharp and Taylor Dover all plan to pursue doctoral degrees.

Ombuds Office serves students through remote learning phase
The university’s Ombuds Office is still serving the Emory community as a communication partner and bridge to other resources during this time of remote learning, teaching and working.

 

SUSTAINABILITY
Campus plans virtual celebrations to recognize Earth Day
The Emory community will mark the 50th anniversary of Earth Day with numerous activities throughout April. Join virtual events, learn about available resources and play your part in #AtHomeActivism.

For student Sareena Sethi, decorating her room at home to be more like her college room is helping ease the transition; for sociology professor Devon Goss, a four-legged assistant helps brighten the days. “Classes That Click” explores how Emory is adapting to remote learning.

New antiviral drug discovered at Emory offers hope for COVID-19 treatment
Scientists are hopeful that a new drug called EIDD-2801 could change the way doctors treat COVID-19. The drug shows promise in reducing lung damage and has finished testing in mice. It will soon move to human clinical trials.

 

ENVIRONMENT
Pandemic lockdowns set up 'natural experiment' on air pollution
COVID-19 lockdowns have slashed air pollution levels across the globe. Emory professor Eri Saikawa is asking her students to track current greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants to study how the novel coronavirus has impacted air quality and climate change.
