MILESTONE Mapped: The future of the School of Medicine's Class of 2019 Graduating Emory medical students experienced their "rite of passage" March 15, when they discovered where they are headed next on their journeys to become physicians. SCHOLARSHIP 'Framing Shadows' considers lives of African American domestic workers Spelman College President Mary Schmidt Campbell will join Emory professor Kimberly Wallace-Sanders and moderator Rose Scott of WABE Radio for a May 8 conversation titled "Framing Shadows/ Framing Lives." EVENTS Konner to deliver 2019 Distinguished Faculty Lecture Melvin J. Konner, Samuel Candler Dobbs Professor of Anthropology and Behavioral Biology, will discuss "Believers: Faith in Human Nature" on Tuesday, March 26. FACULTY Dowe appointed Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Political Science and African American Studies Political scientist Pearl K. Dowe will join Emory as Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Political Science and African American Studies with a joint appointment between the university's Oxford College and Emory College of Arts and Sciences. RESOURCES Degree Tracker streamlines advising for undergraduate students Emory's new Degree Tracker tool is designed to empower students with an interactive degree audit report that clearly lists courses completed and in progress, along with listings of courses that would satisfy outstanding requirements. RESEARCH From Stone Age chips to microchips: How tiny tools made us human Anthropologists believe that tool-making is one of the key behaviors that separated our human ancestors from other primates. A new paper by an Emory anthropologist, however, argues that it was not tool-making that set hominins apart -- it was the miniaturization of tools. INSIGHT Stacey Abrams named Emory University's 2019 Class Day speaker Stacey Abrams has been named keynote speaker for Emory's Class Day, a student-organized event for students receiving bachelor's degrees at this year's Commencement. Class Day is May 9, leading into Commencement weekend. INSPIRATION U.S. Rep. John Lewis to speak at Oxford College Commencement Civil rights leader U.S. Rep. John R. Lewis, who represents Georgia's 5th Congressional District, will be the speaker for the 174th Commencement exercises of Emory's Oxford College. ACHIEVEMENT Emory's graduate, professional schools ranked among nation's best by U.S. News Emory University's graduate and professional schools and programs are ranked among the best in the nation, according to analysis and surveys released today in U.S. News and World Report's 2020 edition of "America's Best Graduate Schools" guide.

EMORY INSIDER   Celebrate Tibet Week: Enjoy learning about the culture of Tibet during Emory's annual Tibet Week. Events continue through March 23 with daily guided meditation, the construction of a sand mandala at the Carlos Museum, and discussions focused on Tibetan art, education and community service.
