ACHIEVEMENT Match Day 2017 reveals residency destinations for medical students Opening their Match Day envelopes in unison at noon on Friday, March 17, graduating medical students of the Emory University School of Medicine learned where they will begin their careers as doctors. COMMUNITY Emory responds to travel bans with community-building, support Emory's International Student and Scholar Services is working with colleagues across the university to provide information and support to those impacted by President Trump's executive orders on immigration. AWARDS Emory debate places first in national competition Viveth Karthikeyan and Kristen Lowe, both seniors at Emory, bested Harvard's team to win the American Debate Association National Championship. ANALYSIS 'Trump Talk' series seeks to open campus dialogue Top Emory scholars will lead "Trump Talk: First 100 Days," a three-part dialogue series that aims to advance conversations on religion, health care, immigration, race, economics and LGBTQ issues. INSIGHT Anderson wins National Book Critics Circle Award for 'White Rage' Emory historian Carol Anderson received the National Book Critics Circle Award for criticism for her book "White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide," lauded as "a searing critique of white America's systematic resistance to African American advancement." SPORTS Emory Swimming & Diving sweeps NCAA Championships The Emory women's team claimed its eighth consecutive NCAA Division III championship as the men's team won its first NCAA title in school history. LITERATURE Emory professor recognized with prestigious poetry awards Poems by Jericho Brown, associate professor of English and creative writing, won the Cecil Hemley Memorial Award and the Lyric Poetry Award from the Poetry Society of America. RESEARCH Cancer immunotherapy: revived T cells still need fuel Emory Vaccine Center and Winship Cancer Institute researchers teamed up to show what killer T cells need to proliferate after being revived by cancer immunotherapy drugs targeting PD-1. The findings have implications for predictive tests and combination therapies. HEALTH Single sport focus before age 12 poses injury risk in young athletes A study conducted by Emory Sports Medicine physician Neeru Jayanthi recommends that young athletes should not specialize in sports before age 12 or train more hours per week than their age. INNOVATION Female inventors contribute groundbreaking research From new treatment methods for life-threatening diseases to new techniques for health education, Emory women help shape the world in which we live. In honor of Women's History Month, the Office of Technology Transfer highlights the university's female inventors. RECOGNITION 100 Years of Women of Excellence celebrates pioneers, today's leaders Saturday's 100 Years of Women of Excellence Awards celebrated the impact of Emory's female students, faculty and staff, both this year and across the last century. Lambda Theta Alpha won Program of the Year for "50 Shades of Latinx."

Events continue through March 25, including the popular Physics Live and Chemistry Carnival at Emory on Friday. Tibet Week begins Emory's annual Tibet Week kicked off Monday with an opening ceremony in the Michael C. Carlos Museum's Ackerman Hall. Daily events including discussions, meditation and mandala sand painting continue through Friday.
